Characters
Main characters
Hōtarō Oreki (折木 奉太郎 Oreki Hōtarō)
Voiced by: Yūichi Nakamura
A less-than-energetic boy who joins
the Classic Literature Club at the request of his older sister, Tomoe Oreki, to
stop it being abolished. Though he doesn't particularly like to do anything
that involves effort, if given something to think about, he will see it through
until it is solved and then manages to make brilliantly logical deductions. His
relation towards Eru is, as he quotes, "someone he can't ignore." It
is shown that he finds Eru attractive, and that he may have developed feelings
for her.
Eru Chitanda (千反田 える Chitanda Eru)
Voiced by: Satomi
Satō
A curious girl who is a member of
the Classic Literature Club. She is polite and kind but simultaneously ditzy
and energetic. She also comes from a wealthy family of farmers. Whenever a
mystery is brought to her, she won't be able to stop thinking about it until it
is solved, and usually calls for Oreki to solve it. She holds great admiration
for Oreki, often praising him for his talent in solving mysteries. It is later
hinted that she may harbor feelings for Oreki.
Satoshi Fukube (福部 里志 Fukube Satoshi)
Voiced by: Daisuke
Sakaguchi
Hōtarō's classmate who joins the
Classic Literature Club with him. He has an impressive memory that he calls his
"database", and can almost always be seen smiling. While being the
most comical character of the four, he has also been shown to be secretly
jealous towards Oreki for his analyzing abilities. He calls Mayaka Ibara by her
first name, which indicates the two are close. Later on Satoshi reveals that he
does have feelings for Mayaka but he doesn't want to become
"obsessed" with her.
Mayaka Ibara (伊原 摩耶花 Ibara Mayaka)
Voiced by: Ai Kayano
The fourth member of the Classic
Literature Club; joined after the other three. She and the boys were from same
middle school. She doesn't get along with Hōtarō, as they were called 'Kaburaya
Middle's best couple'. Mayaka has romantic feelings towards Satoshi (who has
always treated her in a frivolous way). She refers to Satoshi as Fuku-chan.

An unsung and tragic hero of
Kamiyama School's past. Forced to be the scapegoat leader of a school protest,
he was punished with expulsion. He was the president of the Classic Literature
Club and the writer for the anthology "Hyōka". So named because
"Hyōka" means "frozen treat," which refers to the English

for Jun's silent anguish. He is thought to be lost in India.[1]
